- · Children’s Literature and Harry Potter: How far does J K Rowling transcends the canonical confines of children’s literature and claims the heights of ‘real’ literature?
Yes we can read Harry Potter
series as children’s literature, especially written for pleasure and
entertainment. No doubt it has quality and content that we can judge it as
children’s literature. It is highly imaginative, full of fancy, not so simple
but straight forward moving story (journey from birth to adulthood of Harry).
There are children as character and even Harry is our hero in the narrative,
they are the doer of action. Most important thing is that when we are child and
for entertainment we read novel it’s a great pleasure but when we grown up and
a mature as we can think about harry potter novel so we find that it’s look
like our life story .we connect our life from birth to present situation and
also death. Though it is the story of a child’s journey from birth to
adulthood, but as the story move forward, it becomes deeper and philosophical
thoughts are also become more prominent. Not only the thoughts but the hardship
of the life also increases. But the theme of life and death is very well
presented in this novel but ass child literature also all the elements have in
novel so we can judge harry potter as a real (life) time hero..
· The theme of Choice and Chance: How does Harry Potter discusses the antithetical concepts of ‘choice’ and ‘chance’?
Over and over again in
the novels it is made clear that it is a person’s choices and actions that are
the defining elements of his moral character. It is not our ancestry, social
roles, or wealth that makes us who we are. It is, as Albus Dumbledore tells
Harry in Chamber of Secrets,
“Our choices . . . That show what we truly
are, far more than our abilities”.
The key action before
the first book of the series begins is Lily Potter’s choice to protect her son
at the cost of her own life. Later, Hermione Granger makes the heroic choice to
challenge the racism behind the slavery of the house-elves. Neville Longbottom
chooses not to step aside so that Harry, Ron, and Hermione can leave their
dormitory to go looking for the Sorcerer’s Stone, and Neville chooses in
Deathly Hallows to fight on at Hogwarts even after the Death Eaters take over.
The choices made in the novels are not all for the good. Peter Pettigrew makes
the choice to betray his friends and thus forever casts his lot with the forces
of evil. We are told that Tom’s mother, Merope Gaunt Riddle, chooses her own
death instead of staying alive to care for her son. Malfoy chooses to accept Voldemort’s
assignment and becomes a Death Eater himself

- Moral and Philosophical reading of Harry Potter: How does the concept of ‘evil breeds evil’ unfold in Harry Potter? What is the significance of Harry being one of the Horcruxes?
Voldemort, in his
ruthless, futile quest for immortality, openly rejects his own humanity. This
prevents him from ever really understanding what life is about and what makes
it so precious. It blocks him from appreciating the power of love and its
fundamental role in human life. It is this failure to recognize and accept his
humanity that makes his irredeemable evil possible, and ultimately, is what
leads to his defeat. And it is Harry’s acceptance of his mortality that allows
him to embrace his humanity and to love. It is this recognition that gives
Harry the power to defeat Voldemort. More than that, it makes it possible for
Harry to develop into a realized, virtuous adult. In his acceptance of his mortality,
“the boy who lived” is able more fully and wholly to live.
